If you're currently using QuickBooks Desktop Pro or Premier, you have some important decisions to make in the next few days! Starting October 1, 2024, Intuit will no longer be selling new licenses for QuickBooks Desktop Pro and Premier forever in the U.S.

What Does This Mean for Current Users?
If you already have a QuickBooks Desktop Pro or Premier license on a subscription basis, don’t worry—you can still use your current version, but substantial prices increases are ahead.
If you have either of these products on a non-subscription basis, you must change to a subscription license by September 30, 2024! If you do not make the change by September 30th, you will either need to move to QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Enterprise or another accounting product altogether. You will not be able to subscribe to QuickBooks Pro or Premier if you miss the September 30th deadline! So, if you haven’t done anything yet, it is best to assess the situation quickly and take action as soon as possible.
Why the Focus is Shifting
Intuit, the company behind QuickBooks, is moving its focus towards QuickBooks Enterprise and QuickBooks Online. These products offer flexibility and the latest innovations, making it easier for businesses to manage their finances with real-time access, integration with other apps, and automatic updates.
Is QuickBooks Online Right for You?
While the price might seem higher at first, QuickBooks Online has plenty of great features that can save you time and hassle:
Access from anywhere: You can log in to QuickBooks Online from any device with an internet connection.
Automatic updates: No need to worry about manual updates—QuickBooks Online always has the latest features.
Integration: It connects easily with popular business tools like Square, Shopify, and more.
Security: Your data is backed up automatically, giving you peace of mind.

If you’re considering staying the course with QuickBooks Pro and Premier, this is certainly an option. Just make sure you’re on the subscription basis by September 30th. It is important to note that Intuit recently completed this same process in the UK. QuickBooks Desktop sales in the UK ended in October 2021 and support for the UK QuickBooks Desktop ended on July 1st, 2023 – just 21 months after the original announcement ending sales. How long this process is for the US is anyone's guess. It does, however, give us a good baseline for the time available to transition to QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Enterprise or another accounting system for the long haul.
